This program will feature the author of “Openly Straight,” Bill Konigsberg. “Openly Straight” is a young adult novel set in Boulder about a gay young man who successfully comes out during middle school but tires of being the token “gay kid.” When he transfers schools, he decides to play it straight with amusing consequences.

PFLAG purchased copies of the book and distributed them to high school Gay Straight Alliance’s (GSAs) to give the students the opportunity to read the book and pass it around, then come to talk with the author at the PFLAG meeting. The books will be a gift to each GSA and/or their school library. Openly Straight has won several awards and kudos, including but not limited to the following:

  • Amelia Elizabeth Walden Award Finalist
