Hodges Social Activism Scholarship Opportunity

In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of PFLAG Boulder County, we have established a scholarship which we hope to publicize in time for a 2013 award to be presented at the appropriate High School Award Assembly. Please distribute this information to whatever students you know who deserve recognition for their social activism. The application form can be downloaded here. If you have questions, please contact Kristen Kinard, PFLAG president, 303-444-8154 (klkinard@gmail.com) or Jean Hodges, 303-444-4580 (jeaninbldr@comcast.net). Thank you for helping us to make this dream a reality.

About the Scholarship:

The Hodges Social Activism Scholarship was established in 2013 to honor the leadership of Jean and Jack Hodges in their commitment to PFLAG, Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, since l993 in the mission to offer support, education and advocacy on behalf of LGBT persons, their families and allies. Their interest in education, social justice, and young people is exemplified in their lives. Jack was a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Colorado for 35 years. Jean was a faculty member and Theatre Director at Boulder High School. After her retirement in l995, she helped to co-found the Boulder Valley Safe Schools Coalition and also the St. Vrain Valley Safe Schools Coalition in order to change school climate to be more accepting of LGBT students and staff. Having received awards for their own social activism, they want to promote the growth and development of young adults to continue the work to advance equality to ensure “justice and liberty for all Americans.”
