President-elect Barack Obama has selected Rick Warren, pastor of the conservative Saddleback Church in Orange County, California, to deliver the invocation at his inauguration. Described by the New York Times as “an outspoken opponent of abortion and same-sex marriage,” Warren’s selection “set off a round of criticism by gay rights groups angered by his support for for California’s ban on same-sex marriages.”
